The Beginning

For my 32nd birthday, I got myself a personal trainer.  I could not do a push up, my squats were horrible and even though I regularly ran 7km, I knew I wanted more.  I wanted muscles and abs and I wanted to feel stronger.  I knew I could not do it on my own.   So I was introduced to Kris Trainer (that’s not his name but it’s what I call him)!  Slowly but surely I have gotten stronger.  I can do a man push up, something I cannot remember ever being able to do in my life.  I have been overweight since I was a kid and to be honest, it has never really bothered me.  I was an active kid, I was good at sports but I just liked food and cooking.

Anyway to get to the point, last week Kris Trainer asked me if I wanted to participate in a challenge at the gym.  My initial reaction was, “what the hell! I don’t have anything to lose… ” But really, I do have something to lose, at least 50lbs.   The challenge is pretty simple in theory.  Real life Biggest Loser but you never get to go to a ranch, you don’t get time off work to work out 3 times a day and you still have to participe in life.  I have spent the last few days thinking about it and all the things it means but I don’t have any excuses and I can only find good reasons why I should do this.

I mentioned it to some of my family the other day and said I wasn’t going to drink for 3 months (with two exceptions,  Meg’s bachelorette party and her wedding).  My uncle laughed at me, then he started to explain calories in and calories out.  I walked away.

So yesterday, I signed the paperwork.  I agreed to the terms and conditions (which were not written by a lawyer).  And now I wait until September 20th and I weigh in.   Then I have until December 14th to lose the biggest percentage of body fat that I can.  It would be amazing to win the challenge out of all the gyms in Ontario and that is what I am going for but I am doing it for myself.

Happy Anniversary Christina!

Wow… we’ve been dating for a year!

I wanted to get you a nice gift for our first “dating” anniversary.  I was thinking I would get you a Nespresso coffee machine.

They’re pretty expensive… and a big ticket item like that you would probably want to pick out for yourself.  Even though it would have been a kick-ass present, it’s still a kitchen appliance, and I’ve been told that kitchen appliance’s aren’t very romantic.  Can’t remember by whom… and that coffee machine looks pretty sexy, but all the same, I opted to do something a little more heartfelt.

52 reasons why I love Christina Bowman

I decided that I would put together a list of 52 reasons why I love you… one for every week that we have been together (give or take!).

1. You cooked your way into my heart, and never fail to impress me when meal time comes.

2. Even though you didn’t like animals, you kept an open mind with my dog Phil. Now you treat him as if he were your own child, and prove to me on a daily basis… that if we were to have children together, you would be an excellent mother.

3. You always pour me stiff drinks!

4. You have welcomed me into your immediate and extended family.  It’s always a blast to mix it up with the Bowman clan.
5. You are easily the most generous person I know.

6. When we argue or disagree, you are always willing to talk things through with me once we have cooled down.

7. You have beautiful breasts, and when I manage to stop staring at them, sometimes notice you have a beautiful smile as well 🙂

8. You don’t make fun of me for wearing hats that are too small for my head!

9. You let me win at Scramble and Words-With-Friends.  Ok, you probably aren’t always “letting me win,” but   you are willing to keep playing without getting discouraged!

10. You are excellent at planning things and getting people motivated and organized, but are still open to doing spontaneous things.

 11. You can hold a beer can in your breasts!

12. You love going on water-slides and roller coasters as much as I do!

13. I love you because you make me laugh all the time.

14. You always make time for me, even though our schedules are often conflicting.

15. You don’t get too mad when I stay up all night.

16. You’re not afraid to show and share your true emotions.

17. You are a football fanatic!  (Side of fries with your raper-burger?)

18. I love it when you rub cream on my feet.

19. Despite your mad skills in the kitchen, you still let me BBQ, and prepare food together.

20. I love the way you look at me.

21. I love your sense of fashion… for the both of us!

22. You accept me for who I am and don’t judge me.

23. I love that you are intelligent and charismatic.

24. I love the way you encourage me to try new things and read interesting books and articles.

25. I love you because you always want kisses!

26. I love you because you can keep secrets.

27. You make me want to be a better person.

28. You are always concerned about my well-being.

 29.  You make Country look sexy!

30. I love that you believe in God, but don’t ram religion down my throat.

31. You encourage me to smoke less, but don’t complain about it.

32. I love that you stick up for me with your friends.  I have no actual proof that this is the case… but I’m pretty sure that I need someone to stick up for me with them from time to time, and that you are doing it 🙂

33. I love you because you’re always open and honest.

34. You laugh at my jokes, even when they’re not super funny.

35. I love the way you say funny things like, “drunky-drunk”!

36. I love that you put up with me, even when I can sometimes be the most difficult person in the world to get along with.

37. You’re not embarrassed to say or do anything in front of me.

 38. I love that we have so much fun together on vacations.

39. You support me and my decision to go back to school.

40. You share your scallops with me, even when you only have a couple… and even if I’ve already eaten mine.  If that’s not love, then I don’t know what is!

41. I love it when we take showers together.

42. I love the way you miss me soooo much when we’re apart for even the shortest lengths of time.

43. You always make sure I have everything I need… you always call to see if I want anything, and sometimes just bring me things without even asking!

44. I love that you pack my bags for me, and hardly ever forget anything!

 45. I love the way you look… especially when you’re enjoying yourself in the sun.

46. I love that you ask me about my day, and really show an interest in what I’m learning when I’m in school.

47. I love cuddling with you, and holding you tight.

48. I love the way you treat children.  I really enjoy watching you play and entertain our neices and nephews. You have fun with them and look after them, but don’t talk down to them.

49. I love your warmth and kindness.

50. I love your courage and conviction, in everything that you do.

51. I love that we make concerted efforts to communicate with each other.  Moving forward, it can only make our relationship stronger.

52. I love that you have decided to share your life with me.  It’s incredible to me that we are living together, and sharing so many special moments.  Ask anybody who knew me before we were together, and they’ll tell you just how freaked out I would be with the thought of living with someone.  I’m glad that we are living together, and that, for the most part, it’s a joy!

I love you Tuna Bowman… Happy Anniversary!
